If anyone has heard of a tech micro chip giant after Intel, its AMD. The amd shares traded on friday were traded lower, and the company had faced an estimate of $120 million dollar loss in the third quarter. OUCH!. Well, one of the biggest factor that caused AMD to lose so much money, because intel sales jumped nearly 43%, in which it took a large market share in servers. AMD’s another factor that has caused a major loss, is the acquisition of ATI ( the graphic card maker) last year. As you can see, AMD has been facing some difficulty for quite a while, just because Intel has been dominating the market. Furthermore, the company decideds to slash down nearly 2,000 jobs. Hoiwever, AMD is claiming this loss as seasonal loss, and it does expect the share values within next quarter to increase.
My opinion with AMD processors: I’ve used the AMD processor and they are pretty good. I think the reason Intel has taken over is because of the DUO CORE (2) processors being really efficient. Likewise, amd did launch the opteron, and the quad core, but it hasn’t been a major success. Perhaps, we should buy some stocks, and compare when next quarter numbers come in.
