Recent studies have shown that 1 in every 3 workers are in a union, that means that 66% of us are not enjoying the benefits of a union. Why join?
A union brings us such benefits as higher wages; in fact statistics show you are more likely to get pay rises with a union. The biggest benefit is that you’re more likely to get a dental and health care plan where you work, coverage for sickness, accidents, and a pension plan that your employer contributes.
The strange thing is that unions are getting a decline in members recently when really we should all be part of a union. There are repercussions involved for businesses with workers being in unions, pay rises, dental plans and pension plans will raise costs. This will inevitably lead to cutting costs: this could be job losses or the costs could be passed on giving a higher product selling price and in an elastic market reducing sales leading to more cuts. So Unions: good or bad for business?
